Shirushi & Jumon
(Symbols & Mantras)
Today there are many different forms of Reiki and some have incorporated their own symbols into their practice.
In Usui Reiki Ryoho there are three Shirushi and three Jumon (symbols & mantras) taught during Okuden and one Shirushi and one Jumon taught during Shinpiden .
The shirushi (symbols) are literally called Symbol 1, Symbol 2, Symbol 3 and Symbol 4.
The jumon (mantras) have their own names. It is incorrect to name the symbols by their associated jumon.
The Shirushi and the Jumon are provide to assist the practitioner/student’s personal formation. The way in which they are incorporated into the student’s practice is important.
As with other reiki techniques constancy and practice over time brings the result.
The symbols and the mantras are included in reiki practice to assist the student to invoke a specific energy.
Jumon (mantra) is a sound that calls upon a specific primordial or cosmic vibration .. They are ‘words carrying spirit’. (kotodama)
Shirushi (symbols) act as a focus for a practitioner’s intent—Focus, Harmony, Connection (Oneness) & Empowerment.
Chants are also used. These emanate from the Jumon or Mantras and are very powerful tools for the Reiki student.
