Reiki Element Three

Tenohira (Palm Healing)

In the west the practice of palm healing has been seen as synonymous with the word Reiki. The personal practice and the onging learning of the practitioner had not been fully recognised or appreciated. In most cases it was not known that this was important. Usui Mikao initially spent most of his early effort in personal formation and spiritual teachings with Tenohira coming later.

Tenohira is one of the five elements of the System of Reiki.

It is our belief that dis ease and a lack of personal balance is the result of blocked, stagnant or poorly flowing Ki

Ki is like water, if you put additional water in a channel it will sometimes wash out an obstruction.

This is true working on yourself or others because you are bringing one part of your energy system in contact

with another. Gary Khor

Tenohira is an act of supporting Ki to emanate from the hands.

Once the client's body senses the Ki from the hands being placed on or near the body it takes it and applies it where necessary.

It is the Ki that is doing the healing. The practitioner is a channel.

Tenohira is Carried Out with Ritual Intention

The placing of the hands on the body is a ritual. One is entering another's sacred space.

It is to be done with reverence and honour. Tenohira enhances and balances the practitioners own energy levels.

In other words it is a very positive Ki activity for the practitioner.
